INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS
GEW's Responsibilities
If installation is to be carried out by a GEW Service Technician, he/she is responsible for:
• Unpacking and inspecting lamps and cabinets for damage.
• Checking cabinet position is suitable.
• Mounting the lamps in the press.
• Cabling between the lamps and the control cabinets.
• Connecting the interface with the identified press run, emergency stop, and speed related signals.
• Connecting extraction ducting between the lampheads and fans.
• Checking suitability of customer supplied extract ducting from fan.
• Testing the system (checking and adjusting power output).
• Providing user training (at one installation site only).
Customer's Responsibilities
Unless otherwise arranged, the customer is responsible for providing the following:
Ducting to atmosphere (unless ozone filters are used)
From the cooling fan(s) to outside the building use galvanised mild steel or stainless steel ducting. Diameter and size for ducting will depend on the size of the system. For our fully air-cooled systems, the total extraction air volume is 50 cfm or 85 m3/hr per kW. The maximum backpressure allowable is 150Pa measured at the outlet to the fan. A ducting engineer should be consulted for correct installation arrangement.
Electrical connection to control cabinet
The electrical supply must be fused and capable of carrying the current load required. The actual connection into the cabinet must be made by a qualified electrical installer.
Press interface
Run signal (volt free contact normally open) Emergency stop (volt free contact normally closed) Speed related signal (0-10V)
Compressed air
Compressed air services are not required as all GEW UV systems have electrically, rather than pneumatically, operated shutters.
Interconnections (between cabinet and lamphead, and cabinet and fan manifold)
All power and control leads are supplied with quick-release couplings for ease of installation and maintenance. High voltage cables are earth screened for maximum protection and run within PVC flexible conduit.
Health and Safety Statement
Our equipment conforms to the Health and Safety requirements of MACHINERY DIRECTIVE 89/392/EEC and 91/368/EEC. All GEW products carry CE Certification. Installation must be by a GEW engineer or an engineer specifically approved by GEW for full compliance with the Machinery Directive to apply. Full instructions as to the correct operation of the system and its maintenance are given in the operating manual supplied with the system. This important document should be closely studied and its content followed for the system warranty to be honoured.
