Sponsorships 2010
GEW Sponsorships and Donations to Charity

Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity.
GEW took part in the trust’s Christmas poster appeal in which, instead of sending cards to work colleagues, staff would make a donation and write their Christmas messages on the poster for all to see. In addition, a mini raffle was organised and the total sum raised from both events was matched by GEW. The donation will help in the support and care of children with life threatening or terminal illness.
South Nutfield Bonfire Spectacular.
Good weather and a lovely village atmosphere enticed more than two thousand spectators to this year’s event. GEW were pleased to sponsor the fireworks to the tune of £1500 which enabled the organisers to put on the biggest display yet. And what a magnificent display it turned out to be! Despite being a small village, the display rivalled many of the larger well-established local events. With spectators fully catered for by a fantastic barbeque and warmed by Winter Pimms and mulled wine, the event was a total success. The proceeds amounted to many thousand of pounds which was divided into a number of chosen charities and village clubs/societies.
Vietnam to Cambodia Cycle Challenge
GEW will be sponsoring Antony Twigger of A.M.C. Sheet Metal Fabrications Ltd. for this event which consists of long distance cycle rides through Vietnam and Cambodia over a period of nine days in extremely hot and humid conditions. Antony hopes to raise £4000 for his chosen charity, The Institute of Cancer Research. If you wish to donate please see his page on Just Giving, http://www.justgiving.com/antony-twigger.
Team Milo Update, July 2010 -South Downs Way Double
Antony Gray (of Team Milo) surpassed himself this time by completing the gruelling South Downs Way Double. This spectacular mountain bike ride started in Eastbourne and followed a course across the bridleways and footpaths of southern England, including a staggering 10,000 feet of ascent, and ending some 100 miles away in Winchester.
However, that wasn't enough for Antony, he then turned around and went all the way back, covering yet another 100 miles and another 10,000 feet of ascent. All this he achieved within 24 hours which entitled him to join the South Downs Way Double's hall of fame.
During the ride he was supported by a number of other riders who accompanied him through the particularly difficult stages and each supplying him with much needed refreshments and moral support. The support team included GEW's Ben Bristow who did the final shift of 38 miles to Eastbourne.
Antony did this incredible achievement in support of Lynn's Bowel Cancer Campaign, having lost his sister to Bowel Cancer back in September 2008, aged just 45.
GEW supported Antony in some of his previous fundraising activities and were pleased to sponsor him again for this amazing feat. You can see some of his other achievements below. If you want to contribute, you can donate at the Just Giving website: www.justgiving.com/teammilo2 for the South Downs Way Double Challenge.
Well done Antony!
A Letter of Thanks and Appreciation –
The GEW Sponsored Roundabout
This is my annual report on your wonderful roundabout at the East Surrey Hospital - I drive past it nearly every day and there is always one day in the year that it looks its absolute best .... and I think today must be the day. All those daffodils glowing in this wonderfully unexpected sunshine really are such a treat....so thank you once again for brightening my journey to work!
Best wishes
Sally

Jane Tomlinson Hull 10K Run for All
More than twenty two AB Graphic employees are taking part in a corporate challenge on Sun 23 May 2010, running in the "Jane Tomlinson Hull 10K Run for All". The event will start and finish in Hull’s picturesque Queen’s Gardens area and pass through the city’s Highlights both old and new. It will take in historic gems such as the Guildhall and the Maritime Museum and bring runners along the waterfront, past The Deep and through Hull Marina, all with the iconic Humber Bridge in the distance. GEW will donate £100 in support of the whole team. More info can be found at www.justgiving.com/ABGraphic
Dunottar School – Raising Money for
Motor Neurone Disease and Multiple Sclerosis Charities
The children of year seven at Dunottar School have taken part in many activities to help raise money for these worthy charities; sponsored runs/walks, crazy hat or hair days and mufti days are just a few examples of the imaginative and fun ways they have come up with. The staff at the school have also taken part by cycling on exercise bikes during the lunch breaks. Their challenge is to cycle, walk, run or swim the distance from Dunottar to New York and they are encouraging others to join in with fund-raising events to bump up the mileage.
Spurred on by these wonderful ideas, GEW held a “wear a fancy tie day” and any funds raised will be given to the school for their collection. The company will also be making a donation equal to the sum raised by the children. We wish them every success with their activities.
Phil Reid - Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile
On Sunday 21st March, GEW’s Phil Reid took part in the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile at Battlebridge Athletics Track in Redhill. The event was well supported by some 300 runners and the weather was kind that day. Although the event wasn’t a race, Phil decided put his foot down and he actually managed to finish the race in fourth position. Phil raised a grand total of £209 for Sport Relief, the charity that really helps make a world of difference to people living really tough lives both in the UK and the world’s poorest countries.
Phil, making a break.
Antony Gray - Team Milo
GEW will again be sponsoring Antony in his charity work this year. Having suffered several tragic and premature losses in his close family, Antony is now deeply involved in raising money and awareness for worthy charities and, in particular, The Children’s Trust Tadworth. The trust is one of the UK’s leading units for treating children with brain injuries. Please see below, the “Trans Rockies Challenge for Milo”, and you will see the story behind his support. In Antony’s words, the main focus for the Gray’s fundraising in 2010 is based around the following gruelling events:
South Downs Way Double Challenge & The Virgin London Marathon:
The London Marathon is known to everyone, but most of you are probably not familiar with the ‘South Downs Way Double’.
The South Downs Way Double is the toughest 24 hours challenge in the UK for off-road mountain biking. I recently completed the South Downs Way and it was one of the most exhausting experiences of my life. 100 miles at night, and it took me over ten hours.
The Double Challenge is 100 miles there and 100 miles back. I have 24hours to complete the 200 miles, and to be honest, the thought of it is pretty terrifying.
