GEW TO INTRODUCE UV UPGRADE FOR NEW AND EXISTING CONVERTING LINES AT CMM
UV systems manufacturer GEW (EC) Ltd will introduce IsoCure to the North American converting industry at CMM International, Chicago. Already a market leader in the narrow web sector, the company is targeting the wider web packaging and silicon release liner markets with a UV system they say will bring unprecedented savings to users.

The company will exhibit a four-lamp inert atmosphere IsoCure UV curing system complete with 32kW electronic e-Brick power supply. The system can be supplied for both new equipment lines or as a retrofit for existing machines to increase operating speeds and curing efficiency.

GEW has over ten years experience in producing custom-made inert atmosphere curing systems up to 2m wide for high-speed, specialist converting applications. Installations can be designed to suit converters' exact requirements in terms of mechanical integration, oxygen concentration and web speed.
The system's e-Brick electronic power supply boosts UV output while significantly reducing energy costs and carbon emissions. Reliability is optimised as the UV lamps run with better stability and longer lamp life, hence down time is reduced. The units themselves are a fraction of the size of a conventional transformer supply so much less valuable factory space is needed for installation on a wide format UV press. Its fully balanced phase loading ensures a trouble-free installation and helps avoid surcharges or penalties from energy providers.
“Typically, UV systems require large exhaust fans, ducting and manifolds to remove the ozone and heat generated by the UV lamps when curing,” adds Wenger “IsoCure seals the lamp in its own temperature controlled micro-climate in isolation from the plant or print room, eliminating the expenditure of ambient air for cooling and ozone extraction. Instead of being ducted to the outside of the building, ozone is safely destroyed within the lamphead. This gives unprecedented savings in UV system operating costs because expensive heated or air-conditioned factory air is no longer consumed. Lamp life is also increased as airborne contaminants and dust particles are not sucked into the lamp head. As no ducting or exhaust fans are needed, IsoCure allows neater, more compact installation with significantly reduced noise levels”.
