Dragon Boat Race – GEW Raising Funds for St. Catherine’s Hospice

GEW participated in the Dragon Boat Race held at Tilgate Park, Crawley on 9th September 2007. The event helped raise funds for St. Catherine’s Hospice.

With generous sponsorship from GEW’s suppliers and from the sponsorship collected by our team members and their colleagues, we are absolutely thrilled to have been able to raise £4,158.00 for this vital service in our community. St. Catherine’s inform us that this represents one of the largest single amounts a company has collected in Sponsorship for the Dragon Boat Festival to date.

The sun shone on the 4,500 members of the general public who turned up to watch the 35 teams competing and getting very wet into the bargain! Our team was not quite fast enough to place us in the final but all the rowers, and the many other employees and families who came to support had great fun cheering them on. We were pleased to be placed 14th overall. We understand that the event is on target to make at least £45,000 for St Catherine’s and that this figure may well reach £50,000 once all the monies have been collected.

The holistic, encompassing and tailored care that St. Catherine’s provides really makes a difference to those living with an incurable illness and the people close to them, who also need support.
