The UV curing system on the CI press comprises eight water-cooled UV lamp-heads; seven after each print station around the CI drum with an eighth unit on a remote station for varnishing. Depending on colour application, tone and speed, UV output can be set individually for each lamp head and saved into a job memory program thus managing energy costs.
States Jurgen Schulz of Schulz Flexodruck. “We sell small to medium sized print runs that depend on quality. UV flexo technology has proven itself for our range and run sizes. With the advances in plate making and screen rollers, we are now in a position to print 70 screen without problems”. On comparing UV flexo he comments. ”The UV solution recommends itself. It is equal to offset and comparable to rotogravure and even has advantages for fine type. UV inks consist of 100% solid particles and this results in extraordinarily brilliant colours”.
With the advent of UV-curing for central impression presses Dipl.-Ing. Wolfgang Ziebell of GEW Germany discusses the development of the technology and some of the surrounding application issues with Jurgen Schulz of Schulz Flexodruck in a paper entitled: Quality Plays the Most Important Part, available in English and German from GEW (EC) Limited.
