Lottery ticket printing with hybrid E4C arc and UV LED cassettes

GEW manufactures conventional and LED UV solutions for lottery ticket printing. The choice of light source depends on the type of inks and coatings being used. In this example an integrated system of four UV housings be populated either with E4C mercury arc lamp or LeoLED UV LED cassettes.

GEW manufactures both conventional and LED UV solutions for lottery ticket printing, with the ideal choice of light source depending on the type of inks and coatings being used for the application.

In this example, an integrated system of four UV housings are configured for a vertical web path with a print width of up to 700mm, and can be populated either with E4C mercury arc lamp or UV LED cassettes, or a combination of the two.

The UV assembly features a heavy-duty water-cooled heatsink plate to fit behind the web opposite the lamps, to safely shield off and dissipate any stray radiation. The assembly hinges open to allow for easy webbing up and inspection / cleaning and is flexible to suit different machine configurations and web paths: either the heatsink plate can be fixed to the printing machine and the lamps hinge open, or the lamps can be fixed and the heatsink hinges.

Diagonal wire guards are fitted over the emitting window of the UV / LED lamps to protect them against contamination or damage in the event of a web break, whilst still allowing full transmission of UV energy to the material.

An example of ArcLED technology…

GEW creates mix and match UV curing systems that enable our customers to integrate UV LED technology with conventional Arc curing. Our state of the art LeoLED systems combine with our E4C systems to create an interchangeable curing system so that customers can adapt to dry according to their needs.

Kansas-based Phenix Label are power-users of GEW mercury arc and LED UV systems, with 44 lampheads operating on five of their presses. Phenix Label use ArcLED hybrid curing systems to get the best from both technologies, enabling them to optimise production efficiency and to reduce electricity and material costs. GEW have also revitalised Phenix’s 15-year old Aquaflex press with a full LED UV curing system retrofit, upgrading it to keep pace with ever more demanding production deadlines.
