The US subsidiary of British UV systems manufacturer GEW has installed a specialist configuration of a UV curing system, comprising an NUVA2 high-efficiency UV upgrade with a working width of 1.6m (63in), at a packaging manufacturer in Ohio.
The unnamed, Ohio-based packaging manufacturer that operates the system installed the UV upgrade on a 25-year-old Windmöller & Hölscher Olympia 1478 flexo printing press, which features an ‘old and cumbersome’ UV station where the UV lamps and reflectors were becoming more and more unreliable and expensive to replace, and resulting in inconsistent curing.
Reducing energy consumption and increasing reliability were the decisive factors in opting for the GEW system.
The new system is powered by GEW’s state-of-the-art electronic power supply which delivers energy savings compared to older conventional UV curing systems.
GEW was also the only UV supplier of the three considered for the upgrade that was able to offer one single lamp for the overall width, while others proposed a multi-lamp system.
