GEW Design Engineer Sam Brown has recently taken on the famous Three Peaks Challenge, raising funds for a UK charity that is committed to beating Cystic Fibrosis. The National Three Peaks Challenge is an event in which participants attempt to climb the highest mountains of England, Scotland and Wales within 24 hours.
A close friend of Sam’s suffers from Cystic Fibrosis and she had to have a double lung transplant six years ago to survive the condition. However, earlier this year she was told that she needed another transplant but that she would not be relisted for a number of reasons. Sam and a group of nine other friends then decided to do the charity event to raise vital funds and to create further awareness of this debilitating condition.
All began well; the team conquered Scotland’s Ben Nevis in under three hours. Unfortunately they then had to practice their first-aid skills as the team minibus driver broke his ankle on the descent from the mountain. Exhausting all possible solutions, the team unfortunately had to postpone the completion of the challenge, but this is already being planned for June 2019 and we wish them well.
Despite the disappointment of being unable to finish, the team raised a fantastic sum of over £20,000 including Gift Aid, boosted by contributions from GEW and its staff! Next year’s completion of the challenge can only help to boost funds further and we look forward to reporting on the team’s success. Watch this space for further updates.
