Reigate Lawn Tennis Club will soon be hosting a 24 Hour Tennis Marathon to raise funds for their local Parkinson’s Support Group, with an exciting special guest appearance by 1987 Wimbledon champion Pat Cash.

The marathon will begin on Saturday 18th May 2019 at 10:00am and run through to the same time on Sunday 19th. Pat Cash will arrive at around 2pm on the Saturday and will be joining the play for a period in the afternoon. All are welcome to come along and cheer on a team of hardy players as they take on this tough challenge. The event promises plenty of entertainment with the usual high standard of play. There will also be a barbecue, an all-day bar and a very generous charity raffle.

The marathon has been organised by Reigate LTC’s Mark Hearn. Three years ago Mark was diagnosed with Parkinson’s, a disease that affects over 125,000 people in the UK alone. Mark is determined to fight the disease and is confident that a cure will be found one day. All of the money raised from the marathon will go towards ensuring the long term security of the local Parkinson’s support group.

GEW has boosted the marathon funds and Mark is well on the way to reaching his impressive target of £50,000. If you would like to add your support, Mark’s crowdfunding page can be found here: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/24hour-tennis-marathon

Update 24th May 2019:

The 24-hour Tennis Marathon raised a fantastic sum of over £10,000, bringing the total to £60,000 for the Parkinson’s Support Group.

What a wonderful weekend it was, with about 300 spectators around three sides of Court 5 for Pat Cash’s appearance on Saturday. He played a set with his hitting partner against his sons Jet and Daniel, then had all the children on court with him. Pat Cash commented “it was fantastic to see a club and a community come together”.
